Symbols of strength, affection and protection
Elle magazine declared amulets among the top jewelry trends of 2019, and we couldn’t agree more. They’re symbolic, personal and feel like a rare treasure. Amulets make an incredibly meaningful gift because they embody protection in the most mystical sense. What a special sentiment to wear, knowing that somebody wants you to feel safe and loved.
This season, Lana designed a gorgeous collection of amulets that make gifting easy. They’re conversation starters and points of curiosity. Layered in with other jewelry, or on their own, they tell a really unique story. Let’s take a closer look at the amulets of the season.
The hamsa is a palm-shaped amulet that’s popular throughout the Middle East and North Africa, commonly seen in jewelry and traditional wall hangings. It depicts the open right hand, an image recognized as a sign of protection throughout history. The hamsa is believed by some cultures, primarily in the Middle East, to provide defense against the evil eye.
The superstition of the evil eye dates back thousands of years, tracing its origins largely to the Middle East, especially Turkey. The evil eye is a curse that is said to cause harm to others, brought on by a wrathful glare of envy. That malicious look is given when the other person is unaware, and therefore vulnerable to the curse. That’s where the evil eye—the amulet—comes in. Traditionally shown as a sky-blue-and-white eye, colors that symbolize good karma, this amulet essentially shields the wearer from the glaring curse.
The lioness symbol is very special to Lana. Being a Leo, she has the heart of a lion—ferociously strong and fiercely loyal. Her Lion pendant captures that wild strength and giving heart as this gorgeous, golden creature, mane and all. If you want a standout gift, this is the statement piece of all statement pieces.
